Came here twice to try out the difference between lunch and dinner.

I wonder why I have not been here sooner although I drove by this shopping plaza millions times while I am heading to Torrance/Gardena area.

Lunch offered from Tuesday to Friday (Closed on Monday) with menu taped outside of the restaurant. Opted for Chirashi sushi with Uni. Great deal. You get Uni, Ikura, Tuna, Salmon, Shrimp, Squid, Egg on top of the bed of the rice for $13.95 along with a miso soup.  Quick and easy fix.

Dinner time I recommend to try out the $39.95 14 pieces Nigiri Omakase menu.  Excellent value and taste! Botan Ebi with the soup is one of my favorite.  I also enjoy to be served piece by piece when I can.  It is authentic sushi house but they also do rolls.

I enjoy the environment here too. Not pretentious and sushi chefs were quite welcoming. Definitely recommended.

I was looking for an authentic Japanese sushi house, and stumbled upon Kanpachi in Gardena.

Located right off the 91 and Artesia, it's in a strip mall.  The restaurant is quite small, and has limited seating, but we managed to get a bar seat and view the delicious sushi being made as we ate.

My girlfriend and I ordered the omakase, where we ate, ate, and ate delicious sushi.  My favorite is the salmon and saba sushi.  It was absolutely delicious.  The fish melts into my mouth.

The service is awesome--they make me feel as if I'm having sushi in Japan!

Just browse through my pictures and you'll see why I love this restaurant!

    Overall grade: A+

    Legit sushi spot.

I come in maybe twice a week for lunch.

    Never disappoints.

Compliments to the freshness and care on creating great bites for ones enjoyment.

Ask for the live shrimp and put the heads in your miso soup you'll be very pleased.

    Friendly staff and great food

    Soup + chawamushi + 14 pieces of nigiri (?!) + dessert = $39 (pretax)? Sold!

We heard about this place in an old newspaper article that reviewed quality "budget" sushi joints in LA (another favorite Kantaro is also on that list). We love Kantaro, so wanted to give this place a try.

The quality here is solid to excellent. Stand outs were salmon (melt in your mouth), yellowtail, uni (huge portion). Fatty tuna is a little tough but every bite exploded with fatty juiciness. Others are all very good; absolutely no complaints especially at that price point.

Everything here is also served boiling hot. Tea: check. Chawamushi: check. Soup: scalded my tongue. Good thing there are a lot of fans here!

Service is also speedy: when we first sat down the harried waitress informed us she was working alone and apologized if things were slow? Total duration of dinner in a packed house on a Sunday evening: one hour. I can only imagine how fast they'd be with all hands on deck!

Final verdict: may not please total sushi snobs, but excellent quality especially for that price, and you will walk out very full and satisfied without feeling like you're stuffed to the gills. We'll definitely be back!

Ambiance: traditional style Japanese restaurant, small and bright establishment, plenty parking spots in the plaza

Service: very friendly and attentive, also patient with questions

Food: overall fresh and authentic taste, one star off because of not using real fresh wasabi
Miso Soup - **** very tasty, recommend
Steamed Egg Custard - **** mushroom and fish inside, soft egg and flavorful taste, recommend
Chirashi Sushi - *** variety of raw fish mixed with pickled cucumber
Chef's Omakase Nigiri - **** 14 pieces of sushi, fresh and tasty, recommend
Ice Cream - *** green tea flavor

Price: decent portions and reasonable prices, expect around $40 per person
